After almost 50 years of waiting, here is finally Sagacity by Fulvio Ventura.
The result of a work begun in 1975, the publication of most of these images was expected as early as 1978, when Luigi Ghirri announced the release of Souvenir(s), which never happened due to the failure of the Punto e Virgola publishing house.
Sagacity, Sunstar and Salamandra was the original and complete title, as read a brass plaque found by chance in a printing shop. A work that Ventura then continued to transform, guided by a passion for esoteric philosophy, mystery, chance, jazz music and surrealist and mythological literature.
The sequence of this monograph is curated by Giulia Zorzi of Micamera, and is the result of numerous meetings with the author at his home in Ghiffa, on Lake Maggiore, abruptly interrupted by Ventura’s death on March 7, 2020. The design is by Jason Fulford.
The images collected here were taken over many years in different places in Europe; at the same time instantaneous and intentional, mysterious and ironic, often surprisingly cinematic, make up a coherent and autonomous metaphysical universe, governed by visible and invisible forces.
